Minimum Requirements for Admission:

For the Medical Assisting curriculum:

   The Medical Assisting program is multi-faceted and prepares students for certifications in three fields: Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and EKG. The following are minimum requirements:

      1) High School Diploma or GED, and

      2) Be at least 18 years of age, and

      3) Have a grade point average of 2.5 or above

For the Cardiovascular Technology curriculum:

   The Cardiovascular Technology Training program prepares students for the ARDMS or CCI certification in non-invasive echocardiography and non-invasive vascular technology, and requires that certain minimum requirements must be met:

      You must be at least 18 years of age, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and

      1) Have graduated from a 2-year allied health program (such as radiologic technology)

       or

      2) Previously attained a Bachelors or Associates degree, preferably in an Allied Health Care field

       or

      3) Successfully completed the following college courses:

   Many factors are used to determine program eligibility, and non-completion of one or more of these courses may not necessarily disqualify an applicant (see Selection Process for more information). The specific courses listed in parentheses are from Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU). A description of the above courses can be found at the SLU Website. Courses from another college or university are acceptable as long as they are equivalent.

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admittance into either program.

   You will have the best chance for admittance if you have the following qualifications:

• Have an associates or a bachelors degree, preferably in an allied health field.
• Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
• Have an ACT score of 20 or higher.
• Have previous healthcare experience.
